Weather in Lanzarote in December

Is December a good time to visit Lanzarote?

Surprisingly for such a small landmass, the weather in Lanzarote in December varies considerably across the island. Statistically December is the wettest month of the year on Lanzarote, but this is all relative and dependent on weather systems in the Atlantic. For the most part Lanzarote in December is comfortably warm by day and cool to cold at night, with a high probability of cloud cover over the northern part of the island. The southern coast, however, basks in sunshine most of the time, so choose a southern resort like Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen if you holiday in Lanzarote in December.

Climate in Lanzarote in December

Climate data for Lanzarote in December can be misleading: the average rainfall for the month is billed as 27mm, but some years there is hardly a drop and on others flooding has been reported. This is, however, regarded as the wettest month relatively on the island, particularly on the north coast, so expect some cloudy conditions. There will still be an average of 196 hours of sunshine for the month though, so no need to fear for your holiday suntan prospects.

The maximum average temperature for Lanzarote in December is just over 21°C (69.8°F), which again is a little misleading as it is often several degrees warmer, particularly on the sheltered southern beaches. What is certain, though, is that the nights on Lanzarote in December are comparatively cold, with the mercury hovering at around 14°C (57.2°F) and below.
