Inland from Darwin the “Red Centre” around Alice Springs has sunny, very cool days and freezing nights, with temperatures averaging a maximum of 19°C (66°F). The hottest spot in Australia in July is northern Queensland, where the Tropic of Capricorn keeps things cooking and makes for marvelous beach weather. Catch a tan along the coast around Cairns where the temperatures in July average between 17° and 26°C (63° and 79°F) .

The snowy landscape of the Blue Mountains near Sydney in New South Wales lend themselves to the annual “Christmas in July” celebration – a Yulefest celebrated with various festive events in the towns and villages of the area during the southern winter season. Up in Darwin the fun in July is all at sea – mid-month sees the annual Beer Can Regatta. This hilarious romp takes place at Mindil Beach with competitors competing on all manner of craft made out of empty beer cans.

 

What to pack to for a holiday in Australia in July

If you are packing for a holiday in Australia’s north or north-east coast in July, take along the beachwear, swimsuits and sunblock. For anywhere else a warm coat and some woolly jumpers are advisable, with an umbrella a good accessory to have in Sydney or Perth.
